Remote Interpretation of Zoom Meetings
Remote Interpretation via Zoom
Did you know that virtual interpreting booths can now be set up during online conferences and meetings, allowing real-time simultaneous interpretation for participants who don’t speak the presenter’s language?
Remote Interpreting via Zoom Meetings: How Does It Work?
Zoom offers a feature that enables real-time interpretation during meetings or webinars. The host can assign up to 20 interpreters, each working on a separate audio channel. Participants can then simply select their preferred language—and even lower the volume of the original audio if they wish.
What Do You Need?
- A Zoom Pro, Business, Education, or Enterprise account
- The desktop Zoom app (Windows/Mac)
- An automatically generated meeting ID
- Interpreters either pre-assigned or added during the meeting
Important to Note:
- When joining from a mobile device or browser, users can only listen to interpretation—they cannot control the settings.
- The interpretation feature is only available in the main meeting room and does not work in breakout rooms.
- It cannot be used with a Personal Meeting ID (PMI).
How to Set It Up
When scheduling a meeting or webinar, make sure to:
- Use an automatically generated meeting ID
- Tick the box labelled “Enable language interpretation”
You’ll then be able to enter the interpreters’ names, email addresses, and language pairs.
